AGRITURISMO DIACCERONI – A Perfect Base In Tuscany For Families

Have you spent hours searching for the perfect agriturismo for your family’s stay in Tuscany?

I may have just the place for you!

I’ve just come back from a weekend visit to Agriturismo Biologico Diacceroni with two of my boys (ages 4 and 7).  It was a ‘staycation’ for us – just over an hour from our home in Tuscany (just outside of Florence).

We stayed at Diacceroni’s main property, but there are other options available (more on that below).  I’d describe the vibe on the main property as ‘energetic,’ with a lot of activities taking place throughout the course of the day (cooking classes, horseback riding, 4×4 excursions, themed dinners, etc).

The other guests were a mix of families, couples, groups of friends, cycling groups, and bridal groups.

We had an incredible time and it even felt relaxing as a parent.  As a mamma, I appreciated the epic views, authentic Tuscan activities, kid-friendly atmosphere, and delicious food.

Curious if it’s the right spot for your family?

Let’s take a look at my review of Agriturismo Diacceroni. I’ve included:

  • Who will love Diacceroni, and who should book elsewhere
  • Where Diacceroni is in Tuscany & what’s nearby
  • Accommodation options at Diacceroni
  • Diacceroni dining options
  • Tuscan experiences at Diacceroni
  • Notes for families (strollers, diaper changes, etc)
  • The booking, check-in and check-out process

Who Will Love Agriturismo Diacceroni

Agriturismo Diacceroni is best if you’re looking for:

Boys play on a see saw at a playground at Agriturismo Diacceroni in Tuscany, Italy.
  • a home base in Tuscany – there’s plenty to do nearby, so you could stay here and do day trips to nearby villages
  • a ‘one-stop shop’ in Tuscany – you can also stay on the property and have plenty of things to keep you and your kids entertained
  • a place for active kids who love to explore, enjoy nature, and need a break from cities and museums
  • a property with organic (biologico) products
  • a casual atmosphere full of other families – you won’t worry about ‘shushing’ your kids here
  • other kids to play with
  • options for meals (can cook in apartment or eat at the onsite restaurant)
  • authentic experiences and activities
  • friendly staff that’s great with kids
  • experiences that connect your children to the land (learning about bees, herbs, farm-to-table dining, etc)
  • incredible views of the Tuscan countryside
  • great value – accommodations, experiences, etc.

Who Should Skip Diacceroni

Diacceroni may not be for you if:

  • you’re seeing total peace and quiet (although you can get that at some of the other locations)
  • you’re craving a lot of privacy (although you can find this at some of the other locations)
  • you want to be close to Florence (it’s about 1 hr 30 min away)
  • you don’t want outside visitors – bridal parties, cyclists, and others come to the restaurant for dinner or activities
  • you’re looking for luxury accommodations
  • you have a phobia of little insects and critters – we had a few sneak into our room
  • you need someone looking after you individually and very attentively – we sometimes had to wait a few minutes at the reception to ask a question or book something, but whenever we needed needed/asked for something, staff helped make it happen
  • you need fast, reliable WI-FI
  • you’re looking for ‘clean lines’ in the property/scenery – kind of nit-picky, but there are a lot of buildings, toys, etc on the property, which may bother you if you’re looking for a certain asthetic.  This didn’t bother us at all, but I mention it because I’ve had clients that want this.

Where is Diacceroni in Tuscany?

Agriturismo Diacceroni is set in a spectacular spot in the rolling hills of Tuscany.  It’s not far from:

It’s a great place for a countryside stay and a chance to soak up the Tuscan views.  The landscape is open, rolling hills.

Getting to Diacceroni

You’ll need a car to get to and from Diacceroni with your family.  The gorgeous, remote location means it’s not easily accessed by public transport.  Plus, you’ll want a car if you’d like to explore some of the towns and sites nearby.

If you really don’t want to rent a car, you can hire a taxi or a private driver (NCC – noleggio con conducente) to drive you to/from Diacceroni.  This would work for a shorter trip if you plan on staying on the property.

Accommodation Options at Diacceroni

Diacceroni has multiple properties.  The main one (where we stayed) is the base that has the restaurant, bar, playground, horse stables, cooking classes, and it’s the starting point for many of the activities and excursions.

The other properties are all within a 10-20 minute drive and include:

  • Apartments
  • B&B
  • Glamping
  • Villas

There are options for larger families and multigenerational groups

We stayed in a 1-bedroom apartment (DI-6) at the main Diacceroni property.  The apartment is on the ground floor and includes:

  • Kitchen
  • living room with sofa and dining table
  • bathroom with shower
  • bedroom with queen bed and a twin bed
  • outdoor terrace with table and chairs

Our apartment was spotless and comfortable for our stay.  We did have a few small insects come to say hi, but it wasn’t a problem.  The kitchen has the basic supplies to cook meals for your family.

Dining Options at Diacceroni

You can use your kitchen for meals.  Basic utensils and dishes are provided, but you’ll need to bring/purchase everything needed for your meal like salt, pepper, olive oil, etc.

The restaurant (La Cantina) is open for lunch and dinner and serves fresh, classic Tuscan dishes.   The views are epic!

There’s also a bar above the restaurant, and it’s the place to have aperitivo while your kids play on the playground right in front of the bar.  You can also order gelato!

During the main season (spring through fall), there are themed dinners three times per week – welcome buffet dinner, pizza party dinner, and pasta party dinner.  These are a great way to meet other guests (we did) and let your kids make friends with others (playing ping pong, at the playground, etc).

What We Did:  I brought breakfast food and snacks (popcorn, fruit, etc) and supplies for one pasta dinner.  We also had lunch at the restaurant one day (truffles – yum!) and went to the weekly welcome dinner (buffet style, a ton of delicious food!).

Activities and Experiences at Diacceroni

To me, this is the best part of Agriturismo Diacceroni.  There’s so much to see and do on and around the property!  Besides the free things to do (like use the swimming pool, playground, fusbol tables, and ping pong table, there are plenty of excursions and activities available. As a mamma who’s always organizing fun things to do, it was so nice to have a menu of excellent options (and at reasonable prices too).

Activities and excursions at Diacceroni include:

  • truffle hunting
  • cooking classes (we’re eyeing the gnocchi + cantucci class for our next visit…)
  • horseback riding
  • wine tasting (adults taste, kids can eat and play in the grass next to the restaurant, older kids can play at the playground above the restaurant)
  • older/taller kids can go off-roading and cycling
  • quad excursions – ages 5+

What We Did: We went truffle hunting (amazing!) and the boys did an intro to horseback riding class (they loved it).  We also attended the welcome buffet dinner.

Good To Know: Kids are free or reduced cost for activities and meals.

Helpful Tip: If you have something you really want to do and you have a specific day or time you’d like to do it, email or call ahead to make the reservation.  For example, truffle hunting was top on our list, so I reserved it before arrival.  The property’s activities are popular and open to non-guests, so slots can fill up quickly.

Staff & Service at Diacceroni

Everyone we encountered at Diacceroni, from the reception staff to the horse stable crew to the restaurant buffet servers were kind, helpful, and great with my kids.  Everything we needed was taken care of, and special requests were no problem.  For example, I needed to leave a bag of cold groceries in their fridge after check-out, while my boys went horseback riding.

The owner (Massimiliano) is on the property and active in the daily activities.  You can tell he really cares about the guest experience and that he loves what he does.

Notes for Families

Ages of Children – We saw all ages of kids, but especially babies, toddlers, preschoolers, and early-elementary age kids.

Cars – Diacceroni isn’t car-free, but any cars that drive down the driveway to reception move at walking speed.  Also, the apartments only have a couple of parking spots next to them, so you don’t really have to worry about car traffic by the apartments and the pool.

Parking & Unloading/Loading Luggage – You can drive up to the apartments to load/unload luggage.  If there’s not a spot available for your car at the apartments, you can park it in a covered space by the driveway or in the parking area just outside the gates.

Pool Towels – There’s a fee (€5/towel), or you can use one of the towels from our room.

Breakfast – We had a simple breakfast in our room, but you can also enjoy the property’s breakfast.  You don’t need to reserve – just show up.

Changing Diapers – You can change diapers in your room (the property is compact and very walkable) or in the main bathroom next to reception (there’s a changing table).

Strollers – You can bring your stroller and use it on the property.  You won’t be able to bring it on excursions like truffle hunting.

Grocery Store – If you want to get meal supplies, diapers, etc, you can search for supermercato on Google Maps to find one that’s on your route to Diacceroni.  For example, there are grocery stores in Volterra, Peccioli, and Montaione.

Pool Safety – There is a small fence between the apartment building we were in and the pool, but the gate is not kept closed.  So, don’t let your little ones wander.

Breastfeeding – There are so many benches and comfortable couches set up around the property. Imagine breastfeeding with the view in the photo below!

Booking, Check-In, & Check-Out at Diacceroni

Booking

I booked our stay at Agriturismo Biological Diacceroni online, using the Booking.com app.

Agriturismo Biological Diacceroni -> info & rates.

It’s easy to communicate with the staff at the property using the Booking app’s messaging system or by emailing the property directly.

It was simple to book the truffle hunt before arriving (and we ended up booking the horseback riding while we were there).

Check-In

Before your arrival, you’ll get a message from Diacceroni with an online check-in link.  Filling it out before arrival saves you time when you get there.

When you arrive, park and walk to reception to check-in.  Then, get your car and drive to drop off luggage at the apartment.

Check-Out

Check-out involves reviewing the bill (do this as it’s a huge property with a lot going on) and paying for activities, meals, etc.

Good To Know:  You can still enjoy the property after check-out.  We went horseback riding and were also planning to swim (but the weather turned a little chilly).

Diacceroni for Families – Yay or Nay?

Boy walks dog on leash toward pile of

We’d love to return.  I know my 10-year-old would also enjoy the property and the experiences.

Our favorite parts of our stay at Diacceroni:

My 4-year-old son: “The dog (truffle hunting), having snacks outside, swimming with my brother, playing at the playground with my new friends.”

My 7-year-old son: “Looking for truffles, riding a horse for the first time, playing on the see-saw at the playground, swimming in the pool.”

Mamma: “Truffle hunting with Elia and Nura – I learned so much and loved seeing my boys follow Nura seeking truffles!  Relaxing at the pool late afternoon and soaking up the countryside views.  Meeting other families from around the world (hi Montreal crew!).”
